The Reglazing Process

About Our Reglazing Process

First, any old caulking and/or silicone is removed taking special care of the corners and edges of the permanent fixture. If there is any pre-existing paint or glaze it would be stripped off or sanded at this point. The surface is then thoroughly washed and cleaned to remove any soap scum and mineral buildup, followed by the application of an industrial strength etching solution.

Next, any chips, holes, cracks or damaged areas are repaired and filled with special fillers to make the surface smooth and even, if we’re working with tile it would be re-grouted as needed.

Once fully prepared, we apply a 2-part bonding agent to the entire surface. After the priming stage is complete, the surface is sprayed with a high-tech acrylic urethane compound with the assistance of a fine mist HVLP spray gun. When hardened, the surface will look very glossy and like new. With proper care and maintenance, you will be able to enjoy your reglazed fixture for many years.

1. REMOVING OLD CAULKING OR SILICONE

This is done all around the edge of the area to be reglazed, especially if the previous caulk is falling off, stained or moldy.

2. ACID ETCHING

The entire surface is coated in an etching solution to remove any remaining scum while making the surface porous to allow the new coating to adhere to the surface.

3. REPAIRS

Any surface chips, scratches, holes or cracks are repaired and smoothed out.

4. APPLYING NEW CAULK

This step ensures that the edges of the fixture are sealed.

5. PREPARING THE AREA

The surrounding surface is protected to prevent overspray to the adjacent areas.

6. REGLAZING

The surface is sprayed with a high-tech acrylic urethane compound with the assistance of a fine mist HVLP spray gun. When hardened, the surface will look very glossy and like new.
